How do I fix my motorcycle headlight?

Although the lights work (I can flash the hi-beams and the low beams are on), the actual switch won't turn the hi-beams on. I presume it's just a fuse problem and am loathe to take it to the garage for that. Bikes use one fuse for the headlight.

If the headlight works, then the fuse is in working condition.

Look at the headlight bulb connector, to determine what color wire powers the high beam.

Using a 12v test light, check for power at the handlebar switch connector (high beam color wire, with the key on).

After using any recommended type of lubricating fluid, if that does not work you can (or a friend who knows how to use a multimeter) check to see if the switch itself is functional (see if the current is going into the switch but not out when in the proper settings for high/low beam).
